Windsor, the first town in Connecticut, is strategically placed between Hartford, CT, and Springfield, MA. It is located on I-91 and adjoins Bradley International Airport. The town is also served by public transit and commuter rail. Key industries include insurance and financial services, precision manufacturing, regional distribution, data management, and hospitality.
With a jobs base of 26,000, Windsor ranks fifth among Hartford area communities in total non-retail employment. Major private employers include Amazon, Hartford Life, VOYA, SCA Pharmaceuticals, Eversource, CIGNA, Walgreens, and SS&C Technologies.
Windsor is a community of comfortable, diverse neighborhoods with a variety of housing styles and prices, ranging from apartments and condominiums to executive homes and affordable to luxury apartments. Windsor offers a place to live for everyone.
Residents enjoy a balanced lifestyle with many facilities and programs that promote health and wellness; these include over 16 miles of walking and biking trails, indoor and outdoor pools, 15 miles of river, and more than 600 acres of parklands.
A high quality public school system, along with several private and magnet schools, provide plenty of excellent choices for parents. When continuing education, there are more than 20 institutions of higher learning within driving distance. Many are prestigious colleges, universities, and vocational schools including Yale University and the University of Connecticut.
The Town of Windsor has a Council-Manager form of government with an elected nine-member council and appointed Town Manager. Windsor has a strong and diverse tax base with a AAA bond rating, allowing for a wide range of municipal programs and services, while maintaining some of the lowest residential property taxes in the region.
